Frequently asked questions
What is a ready-madephotovoltaic kit?
A ready-made photovoltaic kit is a complete package that includes photovoltaic panels, an inverter, mounting accessories and the necessary components to install solar energy.
What are the benefits of choosing a ready-made kit?
By choosing a ready-made kit, you save time in selecting components, are assured of optimal selection and have an easier installation. This also offers a better quality guarantee and savings compared to purchasing components separately.
What are the technical requirements for installing a photovoltaic kit on my property?
Technical requirements vary depending on location, roof orientation, pitch and access to sunlight. The supplier will carry out an initial analysis of your property to match the kit to your conditions.
Can I install a ready-made photovoltaic kit myself?
Yes, many off-the-shelf kits are designed with self-assembly in mind. Suppliers often provide instructions and technical support to help with installation.
How much energy can a ready photovoltaic array produce?
The performance of the finished kit depends on a number of factors, such as the size of the installation, location, angle of the panels and weather conditions. The supplier can estimate these figures during the consultation.
What are the guarantees on the finished photovoltaic kit?
Warranties vary between manufacturers and suppliers, but typically include warranties on panels, inverters and other components, as well as performance warranties for a specified period.
What is included in a complete photovoltaic kit?
A complete kit contains all components necessary to commission a power plant: photovoltaic panels (e.g., Longi, Jinko), an inverter (hybrid, off-grid, or on-grid, e.g., Deye, Growatt), a complete mounting structure for the specific roof type, solar cables, grounding/earthing, AC/DC distribution boxes with protections, and a professional MC4 connector crimping tool.
Is installing solar panels without professional certification legal?
Yes, the law permits self-performed mechanical installation (fixing the structure and placing the panels). However, to register the installation with the power grid and maintain warranty coverage, the final electrical connection and measurements must be performed by an electrician with SEP (categories E and D) and UDT (Office of Technical Inspection) qualifications.
How to select the system capacity for a home?
It is generally assumed that for every 100 PLN spent monthly on electricity, approximately 2–2.5 kWp of installed capacity is required. Average single-family homes typically choose 5 kWp or 10 kWp kits. If a heat pump or air conditioning is planned, the system should be oversized by approximately 20–30%.
What tools are required for self-installation?
Most specialized accessories (such as the crimping tool) are provided in the kit. The user must provide standard workshop tools: a drill/driver, a set of socket and flat wrenches, a spirit level, a ladder, and an angle grinder (required for cutting roof tiles for mounting hooks).
On-grid or off-grid – which to choose for DIY?
An on-grid (grid-tied) system is less expensive and allows feeding surplus energy into the grid, but it does not function during power outages. An off-grid (island) system with energy storage provides independence from the utility company, making it suitable for summer houses or users seeking full energy security.
How to mount panels on metal or ceramic tiles?
Mounting systems vary by roofing material. For metal tiles, hanger bolts (double-threaded screws) are used to screw into the rafters. For ceramic tiles, adjustable mounting hooks are used, tucked under the tiles. Both solutions ensure 100% watertightness and resistance to wind loads.
How to connect panels to the inverter and perform grounding?
Panels are connected in series (forming “strings”) using the provided solar cables. These cables are routed to the inverter, passing through a DC distribution box with surge protections. Grounding the panel frames and the mounting structure is a critical safety element protecting the system from lightning strikes.
Who prepares the grid connection documentation?
After installation, a certified electrician (SEP/UDT) must sign the “Installation Diagram” and the “Installer’s Statement.” These documents are used to submit an application to the Distribution System Operator (DSO, e.g., PGE, Tauron) for a bidirectional meter exchange. Solfox provides templates for this process.
How much can be saved by choosing a DIY kit?
By choosing a DIY (Do It Yourself) model, savings are primarily achieved on the installation company’s margin and labor costs. For a 10 kWp installation, savings typically range from 6,000 to 12,000 PLN, while using the same component quality.
Is the "Mój Prąd" subsidy available for DIY kits?
Yes. Subsidy programs such as “Mój Prąd” or “Czyste Powietrze” require purchase invoices for components and confirmation of the micro-installation’s grid connection from the operator. DIY installation does not exclude eligibility for a refund, provided the installation is registered according to legal procedures.
